LEAH STARGAZING

"Leave It All Behind"

(Telescope Records)

by: Jonathan Mariante

Leah Stargazing are a five piece from Rhode Island who play pop flavored punk rock, with a raucous edge, like the Ramones meets Offspring. This is their debut album, and most of the fourteen songs on it are upbeat, energetic, fast paced punk/pop tunes. On most of the songs, they also through in some electronic, 80's new wave style keyboards, like bands such as the Cars and Missing Persons used, adding a somewhat different touch to their music. A few songs are a little different, such as the slower paced tunes "Generic Love Song" and "Second Chances And Old Photographs", which has a Beatles flavor to it; the unplugged "On What I've Heard", which is still played quite fast; and the ballad "I Can't Stop This Ever Changing World", which closes the album. This song also has some Beatles influence, and is quite long, at almost eight minutes. Aside from those songs, the rest of the album is rocking opus with a lot of energy and attitude, that makes you want to get up and mosh! The band plays quite well and has written some catchy little ditties here. Some that stood out for me were opening track "My Stereo" (a good theme song for any rock and roll aficionado! Check out the words and you'll see what I mean! If I had to pick a favorite song from this album, this would be it.), "Stick Around", "Expect The Worst", "Disarray", "Its What You Do", and "Three Days Too Long". A worthy debut effort all around.
