Simple Plan

"No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls"

(Lava Records)

by: Paul Autry

Never judge a book by the cover....or, better yet...never judge a band by their album cover. When I first got this release, I though it was another pathetic "boy" band that was trying to be cool. With crap like The Backstreet Boys and N'Sync, there's enough worthless teenage pop garbage out there and, personally, I wasn't in the mood to hear any more. I figured I would have something to use to set my coffee cup on so I wouldn't stain up my desk. Well, I put this release in my CD player and I was all ready to start bashing away at it when, to my suprise, it wasn't at all what I expected. It was rock 'n' roll and not that teen pop trash that I thought it was gonna be. And, on top of it, it was good rock 'n' roll. True, they're not breaking any new ground here. But, they took a style of music that's been done before and they made it fun once again. It's catchy radio ready rock that's a little punk. Kind of reminds me of MXPX in a way. So, what I thought was gonna be a bad experience turned into a really good experience and I can't seem to get this album out of my CD player. So, yeah, I'm gonna tell each and every one of you to check it out because it's worthy of a listen and, really, I could care less what the current flavor of the month is. This is a damn fine album and I totally dig it. This is the flavor that I'm gonna continue to taste...yeah!
