Earthride |

I'd say this is music to
tame demons by! Eathride takes you on a hell of a ride, playing music
that could be described as Black Sabbath meets Motorhead. Being a Doom
band (and hailing from Maryland, the Doom capitol of the world at present),
the Sabbath influence is of course a main ingredient in any Doom band's
music. The guitar playing (courtesy of Kyle Van Steinberg) is very Tony
Iommi, borrowing liberally from his style, and most of the songs are in
that trademark Sabbath/Doom, sludgy, bulldozing, fuzztone style, slow
paced but hard hitting, with a rough, raw, gritty, stripped down feel.
The Motorhead part comes from the fact that vocalist/bassist Dave Sherman
(ex-Spirit Caravan) sounds a lot like Lemmy when he sings, and there are
a couple of faster paced songs ("Volume 10" and "Train Wreck"), played
in a style similar to Motorhead, but still with that doomy, Sabbath feel
to it. I also hear a bit of Witchfinder General in their music, who were
an obscure NWOBHM band who were also heavily Sabbath influenced and played
in the Doom Metal style before it was even invented! They appear to be
an influence on Earthride as well. Earthride isn't doing anything that
hasn't been done before, but they do rock, and they are a fairly decent
Doom band that fans of this genre should find appealing. http://www.southernlord.com
