TWELFTH GATE

"Summoning"

(Crash Music)

by Jonathan Mariante

Open up the Twelfth Gate and unleash the metal attack onto the world! This band have "summoned" a killer album of classic style metal. Their sounds is influenced by old guard masters like Metallica, Queensryche, Anthrax, Maiden, Priest, etc. Singer Scott Huffman sounds like Geoff Tate, James Hetfield, and a touch of Rob Halford. Guitarist Rich Knight is a great player who really shreds and plays enough for two, giving the band a dual guitar sound, even though Rich is the only guitar player. The band is rounded out by bassist Rob Such (very influenced by Steve Harris and Frank Bello) and drummer Mike Nevaril, who make up a sturdy rhythm section. The band are very old school and very talented, playing no frills heavy metal like in the good old days, raw and aggressive, with a sense of musicianship, and some sophisticated and complex arrangements in some songs. It's almost thrash but not quite, as Huffman's vocals are melodic and operatic, and the music isn't played quite fast enough to be considered thrash or speed, but it's still metal, it's still good, and it still kicks ass! Those yearning for the old days of metal should dig this. Twelfth Gate will also be playing at the third Classic Metal Festival this summer in Chicago. For more info check any of the following:
