Black Label Society

"The Blessed Hellride"

(Spitfire Records)

by: Paul Autry

Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde is back in action once again with another explosive offering from his Black Label Society, "The Blessed Hellride," on Spitfire Records. I don't hear too many people mention his name in the same sentence as Ace Frehley, Eddie Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix and so on and so forth. But, he should be mentioned because he certainly belongs in those ranks. He did some great stuff with Ozzy and he showed the world what else he could do with "Stronger Than Death." But, this release should really show people what he's made of. It's an instant metal classic that's sure to impress even the most picky headbangers. With the exception of the title track and "Blackend Waters," this album is pretty much a go for the throat release that'll leave you sweaty and beggin' for more. Even Zakk knows what kind of musical beating he gave you because he ends the release on an exceptionally mellow note with "Dead Meadow." He gives you a moment to catch your breath there. I guess that's in case you decide to hit the repeat button, which I'm sure you will. Everything about this release is pure magic. There's not a weak song in the bunch. It's not nu-metal, it's not flavor of the month metal...it's pure, straight from the gut, in your face metal. It's one of the finest albums that I've heard so far this year. Honestly, it doesn't get much better than this. Oh, before I forget, there's also a vocal appearance by the madman himself, Ozzy Osbourne. The prince of darkness lends his talents to "Stillborn," which is probably my favorite track on this release. But, it's really hard to actually pick one song that stands out because, like I said, there's not a weak song in the bunch. You owe it to yourself to purchase a copy of this release! http://www.ZakkWylde.com http://www.BlackLabelSociety.net
