Blue Man Group

"The Complex"

(Lava Records)

by: Beca Marshall

This is undoubtedly one of the coolest cds I've ever heard. Although the style is nothing like anything I really listen to, the Blue Man Group CD is just captivating. If anyone has ever seen them perform either live or on TV, listening to the CD gives the same kind of feeling. You're not really sure what's going on, but you like it anyway. The Complex has a slew of guest musicians including Dave Matthews, Tracy Bonham, Peter Moore and Josh Haden to name a few. The Blue Man Group uses unconventional instruments and melodies to put their signature on The Complex. It goes without saying that this album defies classification. It is definitely not a metal album but worth it for those metalheads who would like to expand their horizons. I guess if you wanted to try and classify it, you could combine ethnic Hungarian music with funk, jazz, ambient, and rock. There is no way to describe this album except for by its title alone, "The Complex.
