Kinrick

"Sense Your Darkness"
(Leviathan Records)
by Jonathan Mariante

This band, featuring renowned guitarist Corbin King and Firewind singer Stephen Frederick, both Leviathan labelmates, have teamed up to form Kinrick, and they make quite a team! Kinrick are a hard rocking band who play aggressively and tight, with influence from bands like Metallica, Pantera, Skid Row, a little bit of Sabbath. They do a good job of mixing classic and modern metal styles into their music, and their playing is down to a T. King's axework is very technical and packs a punch, and he plays with precision, with a lot of Dimebag influence. Stephen, meanwhile, sings in his rough and raw voice, but without sacrificing melody. Unlike many singers today, he actually SINGS, and how! The rhythm section, made up of bassist James Martin and drummer Stian Kristoffersen, are as tough as nails, with drumming aggressively and fast, pounding his skins like there's no tomorrow, and throwing in some machine gun double bass along the way. Martin, meanwhile, takes cues from everyone from Geezer Butler to Pantera's Rex. Put it all together and it makes up an explosive package. Some songs are faster than others, but they are all hard rocking songs that hit right between the eyes and are played by talented musicians.
