Downtown Brown
"Moist & Ridiculous"
Static Records
By Paul Autry

When I saw in their bio that Downtown Brown's music was a cross between Dead Kennedys and Red Hot Chili Peppers, I figured I wasn't gonna like this because I personally can't stand RHCP and I figured any band that would compare themselves to 'em would suck big time. Luckily, that wasn't the case here.

There's so much to take in on this release. You hear something new with every listen. It's got rock, funk, metal, punk and a lot of energy. It's the soundtrack for a good time, that's what it is. "Body Rock" gets the ball rolling and, at first, you might think, okay, it's nothing special. But then, this tune just explodes all over the place. It's like they gave their finger a lick and stuck it in a light socket. "Mission Statement" sounds like a hyperactive child who put a little too much sugar on his Fruit Loops. "Mullet Millennium" rocks and then we get into "Drinkin' Song," which is just off the wall crazy. Now, that's just the first four songs...you've got another eight to go yet. They manage to keep the energy level high through out the rest of the release. Yeah, they've got a lot of spunk. Actually, that's what I think I would call this release...spunk rock.

There's also an interesting cover of Rage Against The Machine's "Know Your Enemy," which was rather cool. But, if I'm gonna sink my teeth into something, it's gonna be their original material because that's exactly what it is...ORIGINAL.

For a guaranteed good time, Downtown Brown's "Moist & Ridiculous" is the album you need to check out. http://www.dtbmusic.com http://www.staticrecords.com
