Impaled

"Mondo Medicale"

(Deathvomit Records)

by: Vinnie Apicella

Billed as "The world's most hated band," and trust me, after a small dose of this, they won't change many minds. And speaking of which, all four of 'em are completely out of theirs. The label name is the first indication that we're in for much more than the usual, kill your idols, war in hell Death Metal apocalypse. rather, this one's strictly geared up for the living, who ironically, after full view of the cover contents and in-surgery sickness, will long for death in rapid fashion. If you followed the band from their "The Dead Shall Dead Remain" record a couple years before, you heard a reckless band with some potential but little more than oblivious noise and no real direction. They've taken care of that here. We know firstly, that they harbor a great disdain for medical practitioners; we know that they possess a blatant disregard for human life, where inflicting pain and suffering please them to no end; and we can ascertain from the early going that in spite of themselves, their despicable humor at the expense of the medical profession and suffering patients the world over, they are technically proficient in their playing and not short on imagination; "Mondo Medicale" is a full scale leap above their previous work, solidified with the influx of some new "blood." The hype's been overwhelming surrounding this record. Why? Who else ever thought to create a conceptually, tasteless though it may be, adjoined record that's equal parts blood, guts, and Dr. Giggles? Not many. Should you've compared them to that band who once said, "If We Had Brains We'd Be Dangerous," you're close but they're not the same, though they do share that one common bond-where senselessness and stupidity can yield some wholly gratifying results... and not dissimilar to something like Anal Cunt where shocking social commentary paves the way toward pointed views and an ultimate, "Yes, I see clearly now, what a fuck up I was." Precision instrumentation lie at the poisoned heart of cynical riffs, death grunts, infernal dread, and a sharp tongue allowing this crippling disease to spread at an impenetrable pace-"Dead Inside," "Raise The Stakes," "Choke On It," just three out of ten reasons why you were right to fear those dreaded check up's as a kid. And for those so inclined for a extra little listening pleasure, "Operating Theatre" is another of the recommended radio cuts where luckily there's so much foam spewing out of their mouths, the powers that be will never have a clue! With the surgeon general long since dismembered, a new age medical malpractice is among us; it's called "Mondo Medicale," developed by the one and only, Impaled, who live only to torment you. welcome to the end of the line.
