King's X"Ogre Tunes" After a series of side-projects, B-sides and live records King's X have returned with Ogre Tunes, the band's first new studio album since 2001's Maniac Moonlight. King's X were always a band that was well respected by musicians and critics, but largely overlooked by fans, which is unfortunate for the band as they deserve every word of praise. Ogre Tunes is nothing short of phenomenal, a definite contender for album of the year. Frotman Doug Pinnick lays down some of the most soulful vocal performances since James Brown kicked everyone's ass in the 1980's. Add to that Tabor's incredible guitar work, as noticed with a shredding solo on "Hurricane"and "Bebop", and the thick pounding grooves that Gaskill l ays down and you get one hell of a record. This record has something for everyone, from the somber of "Honesty" to the hard rock charge of "Alone", Orge Tunes is absolute essential listening of the highest order. |
