American Dog

"Red White Black & Blue"

(Outlaw Recordings)

by: Paul Autry

American Dog is back in action once again with an explosive new release, "Red White Black & Blue," which features twelve tracks of alcohol drenched rock 'n' roll. On their previous release, "Last Of A Dying Breed," the band wrote a bunch of catchy tunes. They stuck with you the moment you heard 'em. Same with the release before that, back when they were known as Hilljack. On this release, however, the band went a little farther and a little deeper...all without compromising what American Dog is all about. Of course, there's still songs about beer, such as "Blame It On The Booze" and "I Keep Drinkin' (But You're Still Ugly)" and the straight forward rocker, "Shitkicker." But, if you listen to the rest of the record, it's clear that the band has become stronger, tighter and their songwriting skills have gotten even better...and there was nothing wrong with 'em before this release. So, it just goes to show you that even the best can get better. Check out "Glad It's Over" and "Can't Stop The Rain." These two songs show a different side of American Dog...a slightly mellow side, which hasn't been done before. The disc ends with a drunken little number called "Bullshit (Goddammit)." They make a serious point here, which they do mean...but, it's all in good fun and that's what it's all about. On more than once occassion, I've said that American Dog can be described as a combination of George Thorogood and AC/DC with Alice Cooper style vocals and a six pack of Bud thrown in to wash it all down...or something like that. Well, I still stand by that statement. But, one thing's perfectly clear to me...American Dog is taking it to a higher level. They carry the torch for rock 'n' roll music...and they've got a beer in the other hand. This is what rock 'n' roll's all about people. Tune in and check it out. http://www.globalco.net/americandog
