Iron Savior"Battering Ram" Iron Savior have been making some serious ripples in the power metal world for several years now, and this is their latest offering. Hard to believe this band began as a one-shot project, as they have carved quite a niche for themselves. They are a German based band, formed by renowned metal producer Piet Sielk, who play straight up power metal, cut from basically the same cloth as bands like Gamma Ray. Piet's singing and slinging is similar to that of Kai Hansen, and the band plays speedy, melodic, riff happy power metal that goes full throttle on most of the songs, with lyrics that deal with sci fi and fantasy themes. We do have a couple of songs on here where they ease off the gas pedal a bit, like "Wings Of Deliverance" and "Machine World", but all the others, like the title track, "Stand Against The King", "Tyranny Of Steel", "Riding Free", "Star Chaser", and "Heavy Metal Powered Man" (this one reminded me of Gamma Ray's "Heavy Metal Universe") are high speed, fist pumping, headbanging tunes in the classic power metal vein. The band is talented, the music is solid, the guitars are well-pronounced, Piet sings for all he's worth, the album is well produced...everything one could ask for in a quality power metal album. It has the classic dual guitar thing, with no keyboards to soften things up. One could argue that they're doing it by the numbers, but this is one of the bands that wrote those numbers! Iron Savior has dished out another killer power metal album here, and there's no faulting that. This band deserves more recognition, so lighten up and rock out to "Battering Ram"!
