Cattle Decapitation, Crowbar & more...Review 2.14.05 We make our five hour drive from Cincinnati to Cleveland in search of a newly opened House of Blues in Cleveland. Four evil comrades on route to get fucked up & hear some great musick. We're amazed at how many bands on on the bill, the show started at 6:30 in the evening. Checking out the mundane farmland & family owned lakes along the way. Finally, we arrive at the House of Blues Cleveland. At first entry you might think you've entered an airport, there's nothing but metal detectors & security guards all over the place. I know they must be safer now, due to Dimebag's assassination-but by fuck let a girl smoke a joint before Crowbar....needless to say that was nipped in the bud. After our anal cavity search we entered the lair, where Devildriver (Roadrunner Recs.) was playing, taking me by surprise because I thought they might be one of Roadrunners' shittier bands. Anywayz, they were actually very gripping on stage, handling their set very well-Devidriver is something to catch live. Cattle Decapitation nice guys, but the musick really doesn't impress me, live not at all. Next on the bill, Behemoth with their latest release 'Demigod' all the way from Poland here for us-it was grand, however the sound was a bit off on a couple songs. Still & yet, always a joy to see with their stylish spiked boots & lite corpsepainted faces. Be on the lookout for Behemoth to be touring with King Diamond/Nile/The Black Dahlia Murder soon. Crowbar...what can I say I couldn't smoke weed & I just can't get into them at all without being high. Propain honestly I haven't ever seen them live, although I have some of their lp's, the musick never seemed like something I would want to see played live-but actually they fuckin' brought the H.O.B. back to life. Propain puts out...whipping out their metal with vengeance. Entombed...what can I say, but HELL YEAH! Entombed has made a great comeback after a few lp's that I particularlly didn't like-'Left Hand Path' a classic, but with their latest releases (of which I wish they would have played more of), 'Morningstar' & 'Inferno' on Candlelight. I haven't seen them since the early 90's, so I was very excited to see them live again-I do wish they would've skipped 'Left Hand Path'-or shortened it some, because it's like an eight minute song & in that time they could've fit in two of their newer songs, which would have pleased this Mistress. As always they save the best for last, Suffocation on tour supporting their latest effort on Relapse Records (www.relapse.com). Suffocation takes the stage around Midnite, bewitching the masses with their moshable rhythms & for the first time of the entire night an actual smallish pit started-Suffocation always brings out the mosh in a crowd. Looking upon the many drunken happy faces singing along with a Suffo song almost brings a tear to my eye-it's a beautiful thing. Always a MUST SEE Suffocation dominates the night! -SkullCrusher/Angela/Ball-Buster |
