PRO-PAIN FISTFUL OF HATE US RELEASE CONFIRMED Philadelphia: Candlelight Records today confirms April 6 as the US release of the new album from Pro-Pain. Under license agreement for the US, Fistful of Hate, is the band's eighth studio album and follows the late 2003 release of the band's critically applauded cover album, Run For Cover (Spitfire).
Recorded in Florida, Fistful of Hate is the heaviest and most aggressive album to date from the long-running metal/hardcore band. "Fistful Of Hate is without question our strongest production and contains some of our best work," says bassist Gary Meskil. "It's nice to know that we still have the same drive and passion about our music 12-years post inception and we hope that our fans share in our enthusiasm." Formed by Meskil (ex-Crumbsuckers), Pro-Pain released their debut Foul Taste of Freedom in 1992. The record was an instant success and has since soundscanned over 60,000 units. Successive albums, The Truth Hurts (1994), Contents Under Pressure (1996) and Pro-Pain (1998) saw sales growth continue with combined album sales in the US breaking 100,000 units. All Music Guide said of the band, "Pro-Pain has managed to carve a solid career niche for themselves, built upon a reliable mix of post-thrash precision, and the NYC hardcore code of ethics."
Fistful of Hate is expected to be supported with the band's first US tour in nearly four years. Planned for June, it will follow the band's already scheduled European tour set to begin March 12. The tour will introduce new drummer JC Dwyer (Paingod).

ANATHEMA Releases 'A Natural Disaster' on Feb. 24 through KOCH/Music For Nations
Anathema’s A Natural Disaster - New Set From British Rock Legends Bows February 24th on KOCH Records/Music For Nations In a climate where music has become formulaic and predictable, Liverpool’s
Anathema is a rare pleasure. The band’s unique brand of ethereal, neo-progressive rock is in full regalia with the unveiling of their latest masterpiece, A Natural Disaster, on KOCH Records/Music For Nations on February 24th. The new album, the band’s seventh full-length studio album, displays Anathema at their very finest, honing a most distinctive sound to the climax of absolute perfection.
The current lineup consists of three brothers: vocalist/guitarist Vincent Cavanagh, guitarist Danny Cavanagh, bassist Jamie Cavanagh, as well as keyboardist Les Smith and drummer John Douglas. A Natural
Disaster, the follow-up to 2001’s critically-lauded A Fine Day To Exit, is a collection of beautiful, powerful compositions performed with uncommon feeling and intelligence. Launching from the band’s bedrock foundation of hard progressive rock, predominantly mellow numbers such as “Balance,” “Closer,” “Are You There?” and “Flying” use sparse arrangements and hypnotic nuances to first seduce and then enthrall the listener. These core elements are further enhanced by instantly memorable choruses, driving riffs and well-timed bursts of aggression.
And this is only the beginning, as additional wonders like the evocative instrumental interlude “Childhood Dream,” the frighteningly explosive “Pulled Under at 2000 Metres a Second,” and the colossally building closer “Violence” are revealed apace to devastating effect. Although deceptively simple in their construction, all of the above are really anything but, and, taken as a whole, their soaring layers of sound conspire to weave an intricate painting for the ears that is at once emotionally draining and a wholly inspiring listening experience.
The full album track listing includes:
Harmonium
Pulled Under at 2000 Metres a Second
Balance
A Natural Disaster
Closer
Flying
Are You There?
Electricity
Childhood
Dream
Violence
Song samples of “Pulled Under at 2000 Metres a Second” and “A Natural Disaster” are available at http://www.anathema.ws
Primary songwriter Danny Cavanagh describes the album, as “A collection of songs that reflect personal experience, thoughts and feelings that have been building up for the past few years. [It’s] a journey of light and shade, love and hate, yin and yang.”
Perhaps even more remarkable in light of these achievements, is the fact that A Natural Disaster is the first opus produced by Anathema themselves. Thus empowered, the band has attained an enviable position of strength and creative independence, which only bodes well for a band so dedicated to constant reinvention and facing new challenges. A Natural Disaster was recorded at Parkgate Studios and engineered by Dan Turner.
The album will undoubtedly find its way into the hall of fame alongside the albums of bands whose existence triggered the chain of events that resulted in this classic album.
Anathema has long since been known as one of the most incredible live bands to materialize from the UK, and is consistently asked to headline festivals around Europe and America. With the release of A Natural Disaster, Anathema will certainly achieve worldwide recognition.

CADAVER & KHOLD SIGN TO CANDLELIGHT RECORDS Blut Aus Nord, Niya and Mithras also join worldwide family Philadelphia: Candlelight Records announces the addition of Norway's CADAVER and KHOLD to the label's growing worldwide roster. France's Blut Aus Nord, Poland's Niya and England's Mithras also join Candlelight, signalling the label's most aggressive artist acquisition period in its ten-plus year history. All are scheduled to release new albums in the coming months.
Norway's CADAVER date to 1989. The now popular death metal band released their full-length debut Hallucinating Anxiety via Earache Records in 1990, followed by In Pains in 1992. Growing sales and
interest, however, could not hold back the rising interest in black metal thus Cadaver would separate in 1993. Reformed (and renamed Cadaver Inc.) in 1999 by founding band member Neddo, the band completed their contract with Earache in 2001 releasing their third album, Discipline. The band would tour with Morbid Angel, Extreme Noise Terror and visit the US for the first time in support of the record, quickly regaining the interest and support they had in 1993. Signing with Candlelight, the band - currently featuring vocalist Apollyon, drummer Czral, bassist LJ Balvaz with guitarist Neddo - drop Inc and prepare for the release of their fourth album, Necrosis. The album is confirmed for US release April 20. Formed in 2000, KHOLD come to Candlelight with already two previous albums recorded to their credit. Masterpiss of Pain and Phantom (Moonfog) both received high accolades via metal magazines and fans worldwide - no doubt initially inspired by interest from the members, including vocalist/guitarist Gard (Old Mans Child), drummer Sarke (Old Mans Child) and bassist Brandr (Red Harvest), other band associations. The band has been likened to an "updated Bathory or Darkthrone." The band are currently completing their label debut, with release expected in May.

MTM MUSIC / MTM METAL NEWS:
MTM MUSIC - current releases:
ERIKA - ?Cold Winter NIght? (MTM CLASSIX, 12.01.2004)
ERIKA, still the undisputable queen of Swedish rock - and the headlines! Erika?s first album ?Cold Winter Night? is now re-released and completely remastered in the new MTM CLASSIX series. The album is sold out long ago and is traded for enormous prices. ?Cold Winter Night? first released in 1990 got gold status and was voted as the best Swedish rock album of the nineties. The album is completely remastered and features the bonustracks ?Super Sonic City? and two different versions of ?Together We're Lost? which are unreleased in Europe so far. STREET TALK - ?Destination? (Release: 19.01.2004) Swedish AOR sensations STREET TALK are currently back in the studio recording some killer new music for their forthcoming album ?Destination? for MTM MUSIC. The band entered the Soundcreation Studios in August and have so far layed down most of the basic tracks for the two new songs. Goran Edman will start the vocal recordings on September 7. STREET TALK are also joined by legendary bassist Tony Franklin (Blue Murder, The Firm, Whitesnake) on the new recordings. The 18 track album will contain re-mastered favourites from the three studio albums: "Collaboration" (1997), "Transition" (2000) and "Restoration" (2002) along with bonus unreleased material and some brand new recordings. This album marks the end of a chapter in the STREET TALK history. STREET TALK main man Fredrik Bergh says "that it's uncertain if there will ever be a fourth STREET TALK studio album...Only time will tell..."
SHIVA - ?Desert Dreams? (Release: 26.01.2004)
SHIVA is one of the most promising hard rock bands, among others because of the outstanding femal vocal performance of Anette Johansson. The previous self titled album achieved enthusiastic press and fan feedback and reached # 7 in the german ROCK HARD soundcheck! SHIVA's main members are Mats Edström (guitars, keyboards, background vocals) and Anette Johansson (lead and background vocals). While recording the two of them use some fellow musicians to fill in the drums and bass. "This songs from the new band SHIVA are pretty bombastic keyboard driven pompy progressive rock mixed with hardrock ? I think we have discovered another killer band here ?" (Nicky Baldrian) "Is this a girl singing? My God, where has she been hiding all this time then? Anette's got one of the most powerful female voices in Rock today, no doubt. Mats Edström's heavy guitars leave a big impression as well. "Free My Soul" definitely is my favorite song on the demo.? (Majestic Magazine) The album is expected to be released in late this year or early next year and one song of the upcoming album can be heard on the new MTM COMPILATION Vol. 9 which is scheduled for October 2003. ?Desert Dreams? already reached # 6 in the ROCK HARD soundcheck.

THE MASS
The Mass is an angular four-piece band from Oakland, California comprising Matt Waters (sax / vocals), Matthew Solberg (bass also plays guitar in From Monument to Masses), Tom O'Donnell (guitar) and Tyler Cox (drums). The band play dynamic, stop-on-a-dime music that gallops through a variety of styles, incorporating math-rock, punk/ jazz saxophone and huge metal riffs with grindcore vocals that range from high-pitched screams to deep guttural growls and unearthly howls. Tracks such as 'Trapped Under A Ice' and 'We Enslaved Elves To Build Our Death Machine' are epic trawls through ever-shifting landscapes of squalling saxophone, drifting art-rock drones and crushing guitar. Despite the varied nature of their music, the songs somehow remain cohesive and even melodic.

MY DYING BRIDE US RELEASE DATE CONFIRMED Philadelphia: Peaceville Records today confirms March 9 as the US release date for the new album from England's My Dying Bride. Titled Songs Of Darkness, Words Of Light, it is the band's eighth studio album. Recorded at Academy Studios under the always watchful eye of Mags, Songs of Darkness, Words of Light is already highly anticipated by US fans, following the band's return to doom form on 2001's The Dreadful Hours. The album recalls echoes of the band's crowning early 90's album, Like Gods Of The Sun, adding to it a light-and-shade writing process which has birthed possibly the six-piece band's most commercial song to date - the graceful "My Wine In Silence." Formed in 1990, My Dying Bride currently features vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe, guitarists Andrew Craighan and Hamish Glencross, bassist Ade Jackson, drummer Shaun Taylor-Steels and keyboardist Sarah Stanton. The band are regarded as one of doom metal's most prolific and notable bands. They have been acclaimed by Alternative Press, Rolling Stone, Metal Maniacs, Terrorizer, Brave Words Bloody Knuckles, Guitar, Guitar World, Unrestrained, Metal Hammer and countless publications. Full track listing for Songs of Darkness, Words of Light includes "The Wreckage of My Flesh," "The Scarlet Garden," "Catherine Blake," "My Wine in Silence," "The Prize of Beauty," "Blue Lotus," "And My Fury Stands Ready," "A Doomed Lover." Album artwork is by Andy Green, who worked with the band for 1998's Like Gods of the Sun. My Dying Bride are currently completing work on their first video in nearly five years, for the album track "The Price of Beauty." Producer and conceptual details not available as of press time. Peaceville Records is a Snapper Music Label and is distributed exclusively in the US by Navarre Corporation.

CROSSFADE?S EXPLOSIVE SELF-TITLED DEBUT SET FOR RELEASE APRIL 13 ON COLUMBIA/EARSHOT RECORDS
Intensity. Integrity. Independence.
These three words encapsulate the style and stance of CROSSFADE--Ed Sloan
(lead vocals, guitars), Tony Byroads (vocals, keyboards and samples),
Mitch James (vocals, bass) and Brian Geiger (drums)?one of the most
powerful and inventive new hard rock bands to emerge thus far in the new
century. Their explosive presence will be felt April 13 with the
release of their self-titled debut album on Columbia/Earshot Records.
Intensity defines the driving, bottom-heavy sound and stirring melodies of this Columbia, SC-based four-piece. On the group's debut album, CROSSFADE originals like "Starless," "Cold," and "So Far Away" combine indelible melodic hooks with the relentless power of the band's live sound. Their carefully crafted arrangements lend depth and variety to such standout tracks as the confessional ballad "Dead Skin."
Integrity has guided CROSSFADE's progress every step of the way. To follow their dreams,
the musicians turned their backs on the cover-band syndrome, on parental expectations, and on the chance for well-paying careers outside music.
Independence is the spirit that led CROSSFADE to build and equip their own studio, to manage themselves for a time, and to produce and record their debut album themselves, with post-production by engineer/mixer Randy Staub (Metallica, P.O.D., 3 Doors Down).
The first single, ?Cold,? will be serviced to Active Rock radio January 27, although it?s already made a huge impression on the band?s hometown radio station, WARQ-FM. Throughout September and October 2003, ?Cold? was part of the ?Top Five at Five? request list for 26 out of 45 days.
CROSSFADE began with nothing--literally. In the late ?90s, Ed Sloan, Mitch James and Brian Geiger formed a band called The Nothing, a kind of "heavy-metal Wrathchild America and Metallica take-off," in Geiger's words. The Nothing worked hard to create original material and a sound of their own. To make this happen, Ed began constructing a home studio, Sugarstar Studios, which he describes as "a brick garage at my house that was made into livable space with some added soundproofing and basic gear," while Brian took on management duties.
The addition of Tony Byroads helped expand the sound of the band. "Tony was a veteran of the Buffalo club circuit who could sing any style," says Mitch James. "As a writer, he shared our drive to create songs that were catchy, energetic, and still musical enough to keep from boring us!"
With Tony on board and in recognition of their evolving style, The Nothing changed their name to Sugardaddy Superstar and set to work on new music in Sugarstar Studios.
The home studio experience turned out to be a blessing in disguise. As Ed Sloan explains, ?We found ourselves experimenting with a lot of different techniques--not really knowing what was right or wrong, but just going for the best sound we could get. It took about nine or ten months to complete the recording of the album. The ability to record at home and on our own time was a great asset. It gave us
complete control over our environment and allowed us to experiment in ways that, in a normal studio, would not have been possible due to budget and time constraints."
Local radio stations began airing some of these self-produced tracks, and Sugardaddy Superstar signed up with Taxi, the Los Angeles-based independent A&R company. In November 2001, Sugardaddy Superstar was one of only three (out of 8,000 member groups and artists) to perform at Taxi's "Road Rally" showcase.
Flash forward to March 2002, when the band returned to the studio to re-engineer and remix their album?s worth of material, which they originally called COLD. This self-released set, issued regionally in September 2002, contained eight of the ten songs that now comprise the group's major label debut.
Earshot Records A&R man Doug Ford had been following the band's progress throughout 2002. "As soon as Doug heard the album," Ed Sloan recalls, "we were flown to New York to showcase. We played four songs for the Columbia brass and were signed within days. They liked our own recordings enough to release them with only a little touching-up from Randy Staub."
"The story of CROSSFADE is still unfolding," says Mitch James. "We all know that this is what we were destined to do."
In an interesting side-note, acclaimed photographer Mick Rock (David Bowie, Queen, Lou Reed) teamed up with CROSSFADE for their first photo shoot for Columbia/Earshot, thanks to his friendship with manager Chris Long. And it was quite a memorable encounter for the band.
?Working with such a legend in the art of photography was quite an experience,? says Mitch James. ?Seeing pictures of Syd Barrett, Queen and Iggy Pop make you understand how much of the rock ?n roll life he has seen...and how much we have not. Once you have met Mick Rock (as the true artist that he is), you realize that he is one of the oddest human beings you will ever encounter. So we got along great!?

OPETH Releases First-Ever DVD Lamentations â€" Live at Shepherd’s Bush Empire 2003 on February 24th through KOCH Entertainment Winter Tour Confirmed with DevilDriver
Sweden’s OPETH is a unique entity. The band balances an intense focus on musicianship with a singular sonic intrigue imbued by their mix of driving aggression and prog-influenced exploration. OPETH’s notoriety has been built over a succession of ground-breaking releases over the past few years on KOCH Records/Music For Nations: From 2001’s eclectic Blackwater Park to the 2003’s double shot of the menacing Deliverance (which Rolling Stone Magazine deemed “…shockingly beautiful thunder”) and its polar opposite, the sedate, thought-provoking Damnation (described by Guitar World Magazine as “…a stunning demonstration of the group’s versatility”). Damnation also yielded the band’s first video, for the track “Windowpane”, which received considerable airplay on MTV’s Headbangers Ball.
An intense touring schedule over the intervening years proved to the world that OPETH was not merely a studio band, but a sight to behold. “Each song is a suite…,”proclaimed the New York Times. The Village Voice concurred, “Opeth schooled even the most metal among us.”
In recognition of the band’s achievements and its rapidly increasing fan base, KOCH Records is pleased to announce the February 24th release of OPETH’s first-ever DVD, entitled Lamentations â€" Live at Shepherd’s Bush Empire 2003. This special release not only exhibits the band’s palpable technical prowess but also OPETH’s inimitable charm as performers, drawing the viewer into the mesmerizing web of atmospheric musicianship. The DVD, presented in High Definition widescreen format, offers audio options in Stereo, 5.1 Surround, and DTS, and the 2-hour set list offers a brilliant mix of OPETH’s finest offerings, including a performance of the Damnation album in its entirety!
Lamentations â€" Live at Shepherd’s Bush Empire 2003 also includes a 65-minute documentary on the making of the Deliverance and Damnation albums, where fans can actually witness the actual composition and production of the two releases. Composed of in-depth behind-the-scenes footage, studio outtakes, and interviews with the entire band (guitarist/vocalist Mikael Ă…kerfeldt, guitarist Peter
Lindgren, bassist Martin Mendez, drummer Martin Lopez) as well as producer/collaborator Steven Wilson (vocalist/guitarist for the progressive outfit Porcupine Tree), the “making of” feature offers an intuitive glimpse of true masterminds at work. Åkerfeldt offers, “What we tried to do with this release was to put out something that had the same quality and honesty of our studio albums. I truly feel that the DVD represents what we sound like in a live situation, and the documentary also offers insight on how it is recording an album, or albums in our case. I'm really proud over this DVD!”
OPETH is promoting the DVD release throughout winter on an extensive North American tour with aggro-rockers DevilDriver and the enchanting Moonspell on a rotating bill.

ORG PRESS RELEASE: THREE CHILDREN OF FORTUNE (P1) THREE CHILDREN OF FORTUNE ANNOUNCE DEBUT SINGLE After much speculation, walking on eggshells and pints of Guinness the wait is over. Three Children Of Fortune have committed their debut single to ORG.
Since emerging at 2003's IN THE CITY Three Children have been courted by a number of significant labels. The band say they've gone with ORG for a one-off debut release because of the bulshit free attitude and because of their love of bands who have previously emerged via ORG..
Hailing from The Medway (Kent, South England), THREE CHILDREN OF FORTUNE comprise three school mates - Tommy (Vocals), Steve (Bass) & Lee (Drums). The threesome specialise in creating a visceral, angry and abrasive take on British alternative guitar music. Taking their cues from the post-punk of Sonic Youth, Pavement and Slint they combine primal emotion, English dirty fingernails and a strong understanding of clever (but not compromised) melody. The band have enjoyed a whirlwind 2003 that has seen them complete two successful tours of the UK before releasing any kind of record as well as successfully entering and winning at Manchester's In The City convention (previous winners include Placebo, Muse, Sikth and Cay).
And now after a lot of interest from many a fine UK and overseas label, Three Children Of Fortune have their debut release ready to roll on cult UK label ORG (the label that brought you first or early moves from My Vitriol, Cay, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Sikth, Ultrasound, Lost Prophets, Miocene and a whole lot more) Three Children of Fortune are now working with Paul Corkett (producer of The Cooper Temple Clause, The Cure, Placebo) and will be back out on tour with Mercury Tilt Switch in February, their debut ORG four track single is scheduled for release on March 1st, lots more dates will be announced very soon.

Guns 'N' Roses Wife's Sizzling Debut Novel Now In Stores.
Recently Arrived in Twenty First Century Publishers Fiction SABRA'S SOUL BY LISA REED Lisa Reed's brand new debut novel, a hot romance set in the California rock scene
LISA REED
Lisa Reed is by vocation a sensational writer, by profession a teacher of children with special educational needs and, through her marriage to Dizzy Reed of Guns n' Roses, she is right at the centre of Californian rock.
A true Californian, where she still resides, Lisa is the mother of two
beautiful daughters.
SABRA'S SOUL
>From the heart of the California rock music scene comes this story of much more than just love and betrayal. Does Sabra know who she is? She thinks she is a loving mother and a trusting wife, but her husband Logan, a powerful figure in rock music, seems consumed by commitments to his latest band, 23 Mystique. Sabra begins to feel that something is missing, to feel a yearning for something more. Is she too trusting and too slow to spot Logan's lapses in behaviour?
When Sabra meets the pop idol of her sub-teen daughters, things begin to change. She can't believe the attraction growing in her for this youthful figure, her junior by several years.
Lisa Reed paints a picture of virtue and vice in this tale of love, lust, betrayal and drug-induced psychosis, set amidst the glitter of the rock scene. It is not fate that leads these people on but their own actions. Can they help it and where does it lead?
Who better than Lisa Reed, with her access to the centre of rock, to weave this tense plot as it descends from the social whirl into the deadly serious. If you are a successful rock star, this is a book for you, and if not ... well, read on and dream.
Health warning: this book contains salacious sex scenes demanded by its
setting.

TESLA's NEW Studio Album 'INTO THE NOW' On SANCTUARY RECORDS On March 9, 2004
Tesla will release its eagerly anticipated new studio album 'Into the Now' on Sanctuary Records on March 9, 2004. The original lineup of vocalist Jeff Keith, guitarist Frank Hannon, guitarist Tommy Skeoch, bass guitarist Brian Wheat and drummer Troy Luccketta spent more than two years writing and recording 'Into the Now.' Tesla co-produced the album with Michael Rosen.
The 12 songs on 'Into the Now' include: "Into the Now," "Look @ Me," "What a Shame," "Heaven Nine Eleven," "Words Can't Explain," "Caught In a Dream," "Miles Away," "Mighty Mouse," "Got No Glory," "Come to Me," "Recognize" and "Only You."
These stellar songs fit with Tesla's well established melodic style of gritty and emotionally resonant hard rock that sold more than 17 million albums worldwide and yet many of them add fresh, satisfying sonic textures and arrangement twists. The band has grown, and the music has followed.
'Into the Now' marks a completely new beginning for Tesla. The quintet had reunited, toured extensively and released the acclaimed double live album 'Replugged Live' on Sanctuary, but the real test came with writing new material. Tesla changed its entire way of working for 'Into the Now' and that
included serious personal and musical reconnections as the foundation for the new album. After such a long layoff, the band members wondered whether they would be able to write strong songs and produce an album largely by themselves. Keith, Hannon, Skeoch, Wheat and Luccketta agreed that they had to be
satisfied with the songs, and that wasn't always the case in the past. They realized how important this new album was going to be, and the quality of the songs was the most important consideration. The band
often rewrote full sections or entire songs and sometimes recorded as many as three different demos for each one.
Writer's block was a problem at times and the members would not settle on songs they weren't comfortable with. They knew instinctively which songs were great and which ones were not. "To try to get away from a Tesla feel just wouldn't be natural, but we still tried new things. The songwriting process was exciting and rewarding but was, at times, very hard and aggravating. I was a little scared. 'Can I still write?' thoughts were poisoning my mind. But our songs have to have heart. We must believe in them and feel it," Keith says. "Producing the album largely by ourselves added an extra element of fun too."
"The trick on the whole is to keep the Tesla style in place and yet still grow musically and satisfy yourself but not change so much that your fans are caught offguard," says Wheat. "We wrote about 20 or 30 songs and these were the 12 best." "The whole songwriting process was different from previous records. We didn't settle for the first thing we wrote," Hannon says. "A lot of that had to do with us being better friends and being more together than ever. It felt totally comfortable. Having the songs totally ready before recording is like sanding a house before painting it; the foundation has to be there."
"Looking back at it now, it was all worth it. It was scary producing it on our own but it turned out great. And we really focused on every nook and cranny on every song. We couldn't have written and produced the new album without the newfound communication within the band," Skeoch says. "The emphasis had to be on great songs. About half the material was written before the Rock Never Stops summer tour in 2002 and the other half was written after that. We were really eager to get a new album out there, but then we realized that the songs had to be great and that we shouldn't hurry. Why do it if it's not great?" The give-and-take guitar interplay between Hannon and Skeoch has always been crucial to Tesla's music, and that natural relationship was even more important on 'Into the Now.'
"There's always been a magic between us. I can't put my finger on it," Skeoch says. "We've never fought over solos or who was going to play what part. It just works out. For example, there were some guitar solos on this album that we each tried but it just didn't feel right until the other one did it. 'Words Can't Explain' and 'Got No Glory' were retracked a couple of times, and 'Heaven Nine Eleven' and 'Recognize' were rewritten with different chords and verse structures."
"When we were writing songs, we were able to live with them. We relied on a voting process to decide which ones we loved and were going to use. That was something new for us," Hannon says. "A song took a majority vote -- three out of five votes -- to get it approved. It worked. We'd always feel better after making a decision," Luccketta says. "I knew we'd pull it together. This was our biggest growth spurt. We're tighter than ever. We've learned a lot of lessons."
"Each song is a snapshot of an event that took place during the making of the record. There were a lot of experiences we had to go through during these last two years. A lot of pain and growth. For example, several friends of ours died during this time," Hannon says. "I have really learned a lot making this record. There are so many benefits to taking your time and making sure songs stand up months after you've written them and you're still working."
One major luxury Tesla had making 'Into the Now' was recording in Hannon's Sacramento studio. Hannon worked on the preproduction demos there as well. Using this studio gave them plenty of time and saved a lot of money. Producing and recording the album themselves offered unlimited creative flexibility. Rosen helped with engineering and restructuring the tempos of certain songs. For example, Hannon says that Rosen's tempo suggestions for 'Heaven Nine Eleven' resulted in a "street beat."
The autobiographical title track "Into the Now" is one of the most intriguing songs. It addresses the past while also becoming a statement of purpose about the present and future. Musically speaking, its relentlessly pounding rhythmic thump explores new territory.
"A big part of production was the writing and, sometimes more importantly, the editing. There were several songs where there were sections that just didn't work, so we'd just cut those out and tighten things up," Hannon remembers. "And we are more aggressive with rhythm guitar parts on this album than ever before too. Using technology is a balancing act, but one of the fun things that it allowed us to do was manipulate some sounds. There's a part on the song 'Into the Now' that sounds like it's record scratching but it's actually a guitar sound that we got."
"There were a lot of things to write about. I wrote most of the lyrics although Frank was a big help. He wrote all the lyrics himself for 'Heaven Nine Eleven' which was inspired by September 11 and what it was like witnessing this terrible tragedy," Keith says.
Tesla enjoyed the creative freedom that modern recording technology provided but it was important that the songs could be performed live. "We did use overdubs, but we have to be able to play our songs live. We don't want to have a keyboard player behind the scenes or anything like that. If people aren't believing it's you on stage playing the music then it loses the magic," says Keith. Luccketta puts it simply: "We are a live band."
Tesla, named for the important but historically overlooked scientist Nikola Tesla, certainly built a well-deserved reputation as one of the best live bands in existence. Touring behind successful albums such as the platinum debut 'Mechanical Resonance,' double platinum 'The Great Radio Controversy,' platinum 'Psychotic Supper' and gold 'Bust a Nut' earned a rabidly loyal fan base. Songs like "Modern Day Cowboy," "Little Suzi," "Love Song," "Heaven's Trail (No Way Out)" and "Edison's Medicine" were fireballs. Tesla's major commercial breakthrough was the unprecedented live acoustic platinum-selling album 'Five Man Acoustical Jam' and its smash single "Signs," a remake of the Five Man Electrical Band's hit.
Past successes have secured Tesla a place in the storied history of hard rock but now it's time the band brings itself and its fans 'Into the Now.'

Co-produced by Borialis frontman Rich Dahrouge and Howard Willing (Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, Tupac Shakur) and mixed by Tom Lord-Alge, "What You Thought You Heard" is a scorching gumbo of the band's myriad influences and musical passions - classic rock, hip-hop, reggae and soul, among others.
The band's roots were sown in multicultural Neptune, New Jersey, when budding 11 year-old rock guitarist Dahrouge met Hispanic sixth-grader Eddie Acevedo, also a guitarist (more prone to playing Spanish folk songs) as they were waiting to get chewed out by their school principal. Forming the band in high school, their newly recruited drummer pulled up to their first practice with hip-hop blasting from his car and the different styles of music they learned and loved only multiplied.
The unlikely coalition of rockers and hip-hoppers was soon fully-formed - frontman Dahrouge, Acevedo on bass, guitarist Justin Rubinstein, drummer Jay Kulikowski, guitarist/keyboardist Jimmy Farkas and turntablist Doc-Nu -- crossing cultural, class and musical lines to jam together and taking it to clubs up and down the east coast.
Setting free-flowing jams over hard-edged hip-hop beats, the band quickly became a big draw at local clubs like the Stone Pony, gaining a reputation for their incendiary live shows and their wide palette of sounds. Inspired by afro-centric groups like Jersey's own Poor Righteous Teachers, rock-schooled frontman Dahrouge started putting his thoughts down in rhyme, a vehicle for his genuine, from-the-heart lyricism rather than the faux-gangta hardness the band disdained.
The changes resulted in candid, hard-hitting songs like "Insecurities," where Dahrouge taunts, "Remember me? It's Rick Dahrouge the loser/The drug abuser, the kid that used to wanna shoot
ya." And in "Why Oh Why," Dahrouge claims himself as "just another white kid who suffered an identity crisis/I ain't the only one, I know that many are like this."
But the band's new edge quickly landed then on the punk-centric Warped Tour, where for the first time the band began to see appreciative Mohawk-headed fans at their shows. And as a testament to
their versatile sound, they were soon featured in two years of the truly diverse Sprite Liquid Mix Tour, where they played with Jay-Z, N*E*R*D, The Roots, 311 and Hoobastank.
Borialis is:
Rick Dahrouge -- vocals/guitar
Eddie Acevedo -- bass
Jimmy Farkas -- guitar/keyboard
Justin Rubinstein -- guitar
Doc-Nu -- turntables
Jay Kulikowski -- drums

MORIFADE US RELEASE DATE CONFIRMED
Philadelphia: Candlelight Records confirms March 9 as the US release date for the new album from Sweden's MORIFADE. Titled Domi<>nation, it is the second album from the rising heavy/progressive metal band.
Loosely based on the classic and timeless novels of H.G. Wells (1984) and Aldous Huxley (Brave New World), Domi<>nation will be the first album from the band properly available in the US. It offers a heavier sound than the band's previous efforts - recordings that have, despite the high cost of imports, found a steadily growing gream of US curiosity.
Vocalist Stefan Petersson explains, "the lyrics combine the two distinct but relevant themes of these incredible novels. In doing so, the overall album paints a dark, surrealistic portrait of what the future would be like in a world where you can't trust anyone as even the thoughts in your head may be controlled. To us, it is a frightening reality that we are only seeing the beginning of with expanding
surveillance and worldwide terror plots."
Together since 1992, MORIFADE have five albums to their recording credit. Featuring former members of Tad Morose, the six-piece has consistently built upon a varying and gifted musical palette that has come to impress fans around the globe. And while many point to their progressive/traditional rock/metal elements, MORIFADE equally impress with their powerful and often aggressive song structure. The US release will contain bonus tracks only available on the limited digipak pressing. Final track listing for Domi<>nation is confirmed as: Parallels, A Silent Revolution, The Second Coming, Words I Never Speak, Clarity (Fragments of a Dream), Panopticon, The Rising, Erase, Memory's End, Cast a Spell*, As Time Decides*, Tomorrow Knows*, Dance With the Devil*, Judas*, Lost Within a Shade (video)*. Candlelight Records, with offices in Philadelphia and headquartered in London, is distributed exclusively in the US by Caroline Distribution; in Canada by PHD Canada; throughout the rest of the world by Plastichead Music Distribution.

EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN Release New Album, Perpetuum Mobile, on February 10, 2004
EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN's long-awaited new studio album, Perpetuum Mobile has arrived at last and will be released on February 10, 2004 through Mute. This is the follow up to Silence Is Sexy (2000) and the Strategies Against Architecture III (2001) anthology. For Perpetuum Mobile the band, who have been operating as a constant line-up consisting of Blixa Bargeld, Alexander Hacke, N. U. Unruh, Jochen Arbeit and Rudi Moser since Ende Neu (1996), decided on a novel and unusual production approach. Webcams were installed at the Neubauten studio in Berlin to transmit the entire creative process via the Internet on their homepage, http://www.neubauten.org. Interested fans were granted access to the site after paying a one-off fee which served to guarantee the financial independence of the production. At previously announced fixed times, their supporters had the opportunity to watch the creative process live and to send their comments live to the band. To be able to react to incoming remarks, everybody in the studio, including sound engineer and webmaster, were equipped with a laptop. All the sessions were broadcast and later also the rough mix versions were filed in an archive that could always be accessed online and discussed later in the chat or the forum. There were a number tracks, says Blixa Bargeld, that the band would have abandoned after a few attempts ("Ein seltener Vogel"), but continued to work on because the supporters insisted on their completion. So these fans, through their influence on the music, the lyrics and the production, were supportive in these respects. On completion of the production process, each supporter received the Supporter Album # 1, mainly consisting of material different to the songs now released on Perpetuum Mobile exclusively conceived in the sessions that were broadcast live.
North American tour dates for Spring 2004 will be announced soon.

THE RING New signing and debut album
For over half a century J. R. R. Tolkien's seminal work 'The Lord Of The Rings' has influenced readers, writers and artists of all disciplines. The trilogy carries a resonance, a mythic sub-text that echoes deep within the psyche of the reader, and such is the case with members of The Ring. Drawn together by the effect Tolkien's work has had upon them, the members of The Ring, Jake Samuel (Vocals/Drums), Pontus Norgren & Marcus Jidell (guitars and bass) some of Sweden's most talented and
respected musicians, set out to interpret the great trilogy with their songs and vision, producing and mixing the whole work themselves. With a sense of Dio era-Sabbath soundscape epic, and their own inherent gift for melody, The Ring have created a soundtrack for the imagination that is fired by a reading of Tolkien's work on long winter nights, when the fires crackle and stories are summoned for the telling. When Elder days are close once more, and there is a whisper of magic on the air, when one dares to believe. With the support of Scarlet Records, The Ring have now breathed life in all it's many hues into their vision. First part of the trilogy will be titled 'Tales From Midgard' and will features a
magnificent cover artwork done by JP Fournier (Edguy, Avantasia, Immortal, Dragonforce). Join the company, which includes Doogie White (Rainbow, Malmsteen) on 'Voices Of The Fallen Kings' now on the journey of a lifetime.
Release date is scheduled for May 2004. In Japan the album will be released through King Records

D: Drive Don Mancuso & Phil Naro
D:Drive Update
The second solo album from Don Mancuso is around 50% complete as of late Dec. A rigorous summer schedule for all the musicians involved with the project made for meeting the Sept release date impossible. The good news is that it's sounding great! Lou was able to sing lead vocals on 3 tunes. Real Love, I'm A Little Outside and Your Never Alone. He also did backups on Lock Lips. He may even do backups on one other (if I can twist his arm a little) after we complete the Lou Gramm Band shows scheduled in Jan. (Yes, I finally get to go out with him again for the first time in years!! And with his brother
Ben and Dick as well. Rehearsals are going great and I can't wait to get out.) Jessica Hamilton was also recruited to sing with Lou and Phil on the ballad Your Never Alone. (One of only 2 ballads on this one as compared to the first.) Steve Major will be completing the mixes in Toronto while I'm out on tour with Lou and with any luck the mastering/cover design and other stuff will be done by Feb. Come out and see the Lou Gramm Band if we're in your area. It will be well Worth it!
CANDLELIGHT and KARMAGEDDON MEDIA Confirm Agreement for North America
Philadelphia: Candlelight today confirms the North American license for all Karmageddon Media recordings. The new partnership will see the US and Canadian release of all new and reissued catalog titles from the newly formed Dutch record label through Candlelight's stateside operation.
Starting in early 2004, Candlelight will coordinate release and promotion of new albums from Karmageddon Media - including MORIFADE, TORTURE KILLER, HEARSE (featuring former Arch Enemy singer Johan Liiva), WITHIN Y, the eagerly anticipated DISMEMBER as well as special enhanced reissues of SEPTIC FLESH, SEVERE TORTURE, AETURNUS, NOCTURNUS, and the popular split album from DIMMU BORGIR and OLD MAN'S CHILD.
Karmageddon Media's Guido Heijnens says, "Candlelight has more than proven themselves in the territory and for us represented a logical choice in partners. We believe we will finally be able to have impact in the different market of North America. We look forward to getting going."
Since its launch January 2001, Candlelight's US operation has released over 80 albums across its three US imprints. The company's current projects include the second album from Norway's ZYKLON, the debut from GRIMFIST (featuring former members of Immortal), the label debut from Eugene, Oregon's YOB as well as first-time US release of KILL 2 THIS, HELVIS, 4FT FINGERS, CAPDOWN and KING PRAWN, among others. Earlier this year, the label reissued its popular catalog from Opeth, previously under license for the territory, with bonus material added.
Candlelight, with offices in Philadelphia, is headquartered in London and is distributed exclusively in the US by Caroline Distribution; in Canada by PHD Canada; throughout the rest of the world by Plastichead Music Distribution. http://www.candlelightrecords.co.uk and http://www.karmageddonmedia.com

MORTIFICATION from Australia is in the studio recording their new album. It will be titled Brain Cleaner and will be the heaviest project the band has recorded in Ten Years. A lot more of a Death Metal/Grind orientated album but with plenty of Power & Thrash Metal mixed in to keep it interesting and multi dimensional. Mike Forsberg (ex Cybergrind) comes into the band on drums replacing Adam Zaffarese who left the band in February for career reasons. Steve thanks Adam for his 3 years of youthful input into the band. The World Tour was a high point for the band in 2001. Mike Forsberg has many years experience playing in Extreme Metal bands and brings a big feel of early Mortification back into the sound. Steve is the main man on Bass & vocals with Mick Jelinic continuing on Guitar to complete the new lineup. After thirteen years of silence, classic swedish metallers LEVITICUS returns with style and authority! Björn, Peo and the whole gang did a reunion show for the Swedish metal festival, Bobfest in 2003. They recorded the show with the intention of treating fans to a live release. After hearing how good everything sounded, the band was ecstatic to release it themselves. The audio sounds amazing. This is classic Christian heavy metal from a band that helped lay the foundation of the Christian music hard rock scene, beginning with their EP release in 1982! This is great stuff, offering everything a live concert CD release is supposed to be. BPD rates the audio, fidelity, and production 10 out of 10. It's that good! The songs are Flames of Fire, Saved, Messiah, Oh Lord, Majestic in Power, On The Rock, All is Calm, Born Again, The Suffering Servant, Deborah & Barak, I'm Gonna Rock. The cd is distributed all over USA through Brutal Planet Distribution. Retailers can contact brutalplanet7@lycos.com For more info about Leviticus visit their official website http://www.leviticus.se
