Hard Read |
Origivation Magazineby Paul Autry I like to read magazines that aren't afraid to tell it like it is, a magazine with a bit of an attitude, one that knows the audience they reach. Having seen the past three or four issues of Origivation Magazine, I found all that and more. It's got everything you can think of...letters to the editor, schedules, band ads, articles, interviews, CD reviews, special columns, classifieds. About the only thing they don't have is poetry, which is a good thing. I've seen one too many publications that fill up space with a poem. I mean, come on, what would you rather read...another CD review and/or a feature on a new band or a poem? Yeah, I thought so. The live reviews and interviews are quick and straight to the point. I like that. Same with the CD reviews. They don't over hype an album if it's good and they don't spend a lot of time talking about it if it's not so good and, hell, the last issue I saw featured a review of the new Motorhead album, so, you know they're into good music. Speaking of which, going by the last few issues I saw, they include music of all styles, which is always a plus in my book. I like rock 'n' roll as much as the next guy, but, I don't like to limit myself when it comes to what I listen to and I don't like to limit what kind of music I read about either. Origivation is a monthly, 40 page magazine that's done on newspaper print. It's a free publication in Pennsylvania and, if I'm not mistaken, I believe they're branching out to other areas. Anyway, be sure to check it out if you get a chance and see what's floating around out there. With each issue, I'm pretty sure you'll find at least one new band that you'll become a fan of because there's something for everybody. Can you dig it? |
