ONE SHOT with SINGLE BULLET THEORYNov/Dec 04 by Don Sill
The album, "Behind Eyes Of Hatred," is fully loaded with crunchy guitar riffs and angry, emotional lyrics. "Its violent," says Difabio with a sinister chuckle. "The album does kinda go in different direction as far as emotions go. I would definitely say that this is straight-up American metal. We're aggressive and like I said, it's violent." The Philadelphia based Difabio (formerly of Pissing Razors and Cipher), along with his mates-bassist Billy Mezick (ex-Seven Witches), guitarist Doug Rush, and drummer Jay Horvath, set out to bring some heavy metal thunder to the forefront. Produced by James Murphy (Death, Obituary, Testament.), "Behind Eyes Of Hatred" offers a little something special to every metal head, for those who like growling- check.. Heavy blasting guitar riffs- check. Melody- check.. Aggressive lyrics- check. "I write all the songs and a lot of the lyrics just come from me being pissed-off all of the time, which I usually am," admits Difabio. "Being pissed makes it easy to write. It's the truth. The lyrics are all based on shit I read about, you know politics and how fucked up George Bush is and whatever. But the basic concept is always there from the beginning. Obviously if the band is doing all this heavy shit then there's gonna be some pretty aggressive vocals going out." "Behind Eyes of Hatred" also features numerous drum tracks by King Diamond skinsman Matt Thompson, with whom the band toured throughout 2003. Difabio explains, "I was sitting down with Matt at like ten o'clock in the morning in a bar somewhere and we asked him if he'd be interested in laying down some tracks and he said yeah…there was even talk of him joining the band. He's great and he did an amazing job. It was awesome working with him and I'm proud to have him as part of the record." In short, this album sets a new standard for extreme, heavy music, which appeals to fans from all sides of the heavy metal spectrum. From fans of old-school acts like King Diamond and Testement to fans of newer acts like Lamb of God and Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage. "The resurgence of heavy metal has been a long time coming," says the singer, "and we're just glad to be a part of it." |
