Hard Vision

Pat Travers and Carmine Appice
Live At The House Of Blues" DVD

by Jonathan Mariante

This DVD accompanies the CD of the same name and performance, which I also reviewed a while back. It's a live performance of Pat, Carmine, and bassist TM Stevens playing at the Myrtle Beach House Of Blues back in '04. These three legendary musicians make up one hell of a power trio! They play Travers' classic style of ballsy, bluesy hard rock. Many of the songs are taken from Pat's latest album, "Takes A Lot Of Balls", and they are in the same vein as his classic material, much of which is also played. The band puts on a smokin' performance, rocking to the max from start to finish. Pat himself is an amazing guitarist, very blues influenced, and he plays up a storm, as always. Carmine needs no introduction. He is a legend in his own right, has been playing for around forty years with many different artists (some legendary themselves like Jeff Back, Rod Stewart, and Ozzy Osbourne), and his abilities speak for themselves. TM is an excellent bass player, who like Pat takes a lot of influence from the blues. All the years these guys have been playing and they've still got it in them. These old warriors could wipe the floor with many of today's young bucks! They play many classics and newer tunes during this performance, as well as throwing in a few solos. One highlight is their reworking of Rod Stewart's "Do You Think I'm Sexy?" (which Carmine played on). They really give this song a kick in the booty, totally rocking it up! Pat puts in some very cool guitar work, making it a supercharged rocker! In short it blows away the original! The guys put on a great, hard rocking performance, keeping things basic and letting the music do the talking. They are all great musicians who have stood the test of time and can still rock to beat hell! An interview and picture gallery are also included but the disc was faulty so I didn't get to see those.
