After the Fire I'm no expert when it comes to After The Fire. But, if I'm not mistaken, weren't they a new wave/one hit wonder? I mean...there's 14 tracks on this release and the only one I remember hearing is "Der Kommissar," which is a tune that I'm sure everyone has heard at least once in their life. Anyway, as with any band, After The Fire has a following and that's probably who this release is for because, even though the band is making new material...or so I've read...I don't see this kind of music making a huge dent in the world market. It's like disco...it's never coming back. But, hey...can't blame the band for trying. Anyway, the point of this release....back in 1979, After The Fire played a gig at a place called The Greenbelt. When they decided to make a return to performing live...25 years later...they hit the stage at The Greenbelt once again. The gig was recorded for personal use. But, for one reason or another, the band decided to put it out as an official release. So, there you have it. The recording quality is something I can appreciate because it looks like something I recorded...of course, on a more professional level with some effects thrown in here and there to give it a little more flash. I don't know...I'd call it a professional bootleg because it's kind of raw...if you know what I mean. If you were front row at the gig with a video camera in hand...it might look a little something like this...only better. Get the picture? I hope so because I'm running out of ways to describe what I'm trying to say. The tag line for this release is "you had to be there." I don't think so...since this release was turned into an official product...watch it...you are there. The extra features include a radio interview with some unplugged tunes, which might have been cool. But, it was presented in the form of a slide show. I don't know about you. But, even if I was a fan of the band...listening to something while watching pictures of the event would bore me to death...which this did. At least the live show was entertaining...and worth watching. This release is for the hardcore After The Fire fan. Honestly, I don't think it will do much to bring new people into the fold. But, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong...and that's pretty much all I have to say about this one. |
