GG Allin & The Murder Junkies
"Savage South: Best Of 1992 Tour"
(MVD)
by Paul Autry

This release features three shows from February 1992 and, when it comes to GG Allin, if you're familiar with who he was and what he was all about, you already know what to expect. So, let's just take a quick look at each show, shall we?

Wreck Room, Atlanta Georgia
This is the worst show to be featured on this release. You're lookin' at a black screen way too often on this one. Although, it does have a moment or two. There's a shot of GG havin' a spaz fit on the floor during "Cunt Sucking Cannibal." There's a scene with him climbing up on something...can't really see where he is because it's all black. But, you do get to see him fall on his ass. That was kind of funny. Probably the best part of this show was the two ugly women who got up on stage, wearing next to nothing and seeing GG sing "I Wanna Rape You" with his face in the vagina of the less ugly of the two and, when the song comes to an end, he says something about a "farting prick." He also seems to have a lot of snot coming out of his nose. Real attractive, huh? He has a lot of microphone trouble as well. But, that's to be expected since that's what he uses to bash his head open. Finally, you get to see GG violate a picture of Jesus Christ and rip a Bible to shreds.

DMZ, San Antonio, Texas
GG only does six tunes here. But, this has got to be the best show I have ever seen. In my opinion, if you see this gig, you'll know everything there is to know about GG Allin and what he was all about. You get to see a good shot of the audience before the start of the show and it looks like a rather large crowd. The band begins by rippin' into "Bite It You Scum" and a fan (?) gives GG a shot to the head, which is not a smart thing to do, as GG is quick to give it right back. It was kind of a funny moment because you can see GG tryin' to sing (without a microphone) while throwin' punches at various audience members. That was a hoot. Second song, "Die When You Die," which is one of the best songs he ever did, brought even more violence as GG thrashed and was thrashed by a few fans. GG rises above it all and states, "Fuck with me bitch and you die!" You know he meant business too. Third song into it, it looks as though GG takes a quick poop on stage. Not really sure, but, he's picking something up, lickin' his fingers and throwin' it into the crowd. So, I assume this a turd moment. Another funny moment is when Merle knocks a fan or two off the stage duing "Cunt Sucking Cannibal." By the time we get to the fifth song, "Kill The Police," you get to see GG Allin in all his glory, little winkie and all. He goes off the stage and smacks a fat chick around too. She didn't seem to happy about it. But, hey, it's a GG Allin show...you should've known better. It all comes to a head during "I Wanna Rape You," which is the last song we see him perform. About 20 fans pile on to the stage in what seems like a violent free for all. I've never seen anything like it...it was great. I assume that there was more to this show because after this, GG was having trouble with the mic and while he was walkin' around the stage, some dude comes up and gives him a good shot to the head and, of course, GG goes ape shit and, eventually, he's set to confront the fan, who seems a bit too brave for his britches. I mean, come on, here's a guy that abuses his body in almost every way you can think of and, seriously, what can you do to hurt him? Not too bright. Anyway, GG simply walks off the stage in disgust and the rest of the band quickly follows. Like I said, I'm sure there was more to this show...they probably had a few more tunes to do. But, GG decided he had enough and when GG is done, he's done. This show right here is worth the price of admission.

Cavity Club, Austin Texas
The video work is a bit crappy at times. But, at least it's not as bad as the first show. If you view the DMZ show and then this one, you might feel a little disappointed because there's not a whole hell of a lot that goes on here. You get to see GG's winkie again. You also get to see him grab a fan and rub it in his/her (couldn't really tell) face. GG almost seems bored at this gig, like he was waiting for something to happen and, when it doesn't, he takes a dive into the audience. By the third song, it looks as though he's takin' a poop. Can't really be sure because of the crappy camera work. But, he probably does because, later on, he's eatin' something off the stage and he also rolls around on the stage and he's clearly covered in something. So, it's probably butt goo. There is a good scene where he goes one on one with some big dude, who took a dive off a table to lay into GG. Nice little fight scene. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot...GG does stick the mic up his ass. Big thrill there, huh?

Finally, there's a two song acoustic jam, which was really cool to see. It makes GG seem almost, dare I say it, normal. GG unplugged. What's funny about this is that he actually pulls it off rather well. He jokes about doing a show like this and, too bad it didn't happen. That would've been interesting to see. There's also two cute chicks standing behind him who look kind of young. Wouldn't suprise me if they were underage. After all, this is GG Allin we're talking about.

All in all, the main reason to purchase this release is to see the second show and the acoustic jam. That's what makes this release. The other two shows, well, they had their moments, but, they don't hold a candle to the DMZ gig. That is, without a doubt, one of the best GG Allin shows you will ever get to see.
