Hard Vision

SBB
"Follow My Dream"
(MVD)
by Paul Autry

There's a lot of things in this world that I could do without. This release is one of those things. In the band bio, it mentions that SBB is considered to be one of the best Polish rock bands of the last 45 years. Okay, I won't argue with that. After all, the band has a 22 CD box set that's available and they've gotta be doing something right for someone to spend that much time and money to put out a product like that. But, this release did nothing for me. Well, it almost put me to sleep if that counts for anything.

The main program is the song "Follow My Dream" followed by a lengthy performance piece, with a bunch of people on stage acting out some sort of story. I'm sure there's a meaning behind it. But, I was really too bored with it and I didn't wanna put any thought into trying to figure it out. I probably should keep my opinion to myself because I thought it was gay erotica or something like that. The only good thing about it was the woman in the green suit. I got the impression that her performance was sexual and the way she could move was rather interesting to watch.

I guess the band is doing something right because this release is loaded with additional features. I mean, there's a ton of stuff on here. But, once again, it did nothing for me. First of all, they're not speaking English and that kind of killed my interest right there. There's a lot of live stuff that goes from 1974 all the way up to 1994. There's a clip from a movie called "Golem" by Piotr Szulkin. About the only thing that was anywhere near interesting, at least for me, was a cartoon video "Follow My Dream." It wasn't anything to write home about. But, it was kind of neat. There's interviews, desktop images and an art gallery as well. Yawn.

What it all comes down to is this. I think you really need to be a fan of the band and you need to know what they're all about in order to be able to sit through the whole 220 minutes of this release. I honestly can't see anybody checking this out simply because they're curious or whatever. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this isn't something a casual fan will be interested in and I really don't see it makin' any new fans. That's my opinion. But, like I said, the band must be doing something right to last all these years. So, I'm sure there's an audience who will eat this one up. As for me, I'm gonna pass this one on to one of the other publications that I'm in touch with. Let them figure out what to do with it.
