Manowar I recieved a ten minute DVD sampler to promote the "Hell On Earth Part 4" release. From what I've read, "Hell On Earth Part 4" will feature over four and a half hours of footage. It sounds good. But, if you think I'm gonna hype a four and a half hour plus release after only seeing ten minutes of it, well, you're out of luck because I just won't do it. Be glad I mentioned it at all. However, to celebrate the new release, I also recieved a copy of "Hell On Earth Part 1," which was recently re-released. This is something I can...and will...talk about. For some reason, I always seen to catch on to things late in life and Manowar's no exception. I was a casual fan back in the day. A friend of mine made me a compilation tape and there were a few tunes from the "Fighting The World" album on there. I liked what I had heard. But, I didn't pay attention to them as much as I should have. Anyway, I recently started to get back into them and I've been trying to track down some of their releases. Sad to say, in my area, Manowar's not exactly an easy band to find. Eventually, I found a copy of "Kings Of Metal" and a cassette copy of "The Triumph Of Steel." I got "Fighting The World" and "Louder Than Hell" though a file sharing program. So, this is where I am when "Hell On Earth Part 1" arrives in my mailbox. Needless to say...I was thrilled. This is a fantastic behind the scenes look at one of the greatest bands the world has ever seen. It's kind of like "The Second Coming" DVD that Kiss put out a few years ago. It's just clip after clip of the band...they're backstage, on stage, on the tour bus, in a hotel, an in store appearance. Put it this way, anywhere the band went, if someone had a camera, chances are it's featured here and, let me tell you something, this was a lot more exciting than "The Second Coming" and I'm not saying that lightly because Kiss is my favorite band. Manowar just blew that release out of the fuckin' water. Even when the band is just standing around talkin' or goofing off, they seem to have this feel good vibe that simply draws you in. You wanna watch what they're doing...even if they're not doing much of anything. They seem to be thrilled with the fact that they're in a band and they're able to entertain people for a living...and it doesn't seem like work to them. Then again, playin' music, drinkin' beer and naked women...a lot of naked women...wouldn't seem like work to me either. "Hell On Earth Part 1" features 120 minutes of Manowar doing what they do best. I was a little bummed out when this release came to an end because I wanted to see more. One thing's for sure, if "Hell On Earth Part 4" is even half as good as this one, it's gonna be a monster of a release. I mean, I saw what they did with 120 minutes and now they're talkin' about over four and a half hours worth of footage. That's gonna be the Holy Grail of heavy metal DVD's for sure. Well...one can only hope, right? Can't wait to see it. |
