Miles Beyond Interview

by Freddy Metal

Miles Beyond Miles Beyond is a Power Metal band based out of Flint, Michigan. It features the shredding guitar duo of Tim Moody and Paul O., with Tim Moody handling vocal duties as well. The thundering rhythm section includes Larry Moody on bass and Tod Fisher on drums. Their sound is very guitar driven with lots of harmonies and solos and the songs are pushed forward with powerful vocal melodies.

Much of Miles Beyond's time together has been spent writing and recording their debut self-titled album, which was released in September of 2004. They play live shows regularly, sharing the stage with major touring acts such as Vince Neil, Iced Earth, W.A.S.P. and Danzig.

Miles Beyond is currently receiving airtime on radio stations in the U.S., Europe and Asia, as well as being heard worldwide over the internet. In their home state of Michigan, the famous Screamin' Scott Randall (formerly of Z-Rock) plays them regularly on WRIF 101.1FM in Detroit. They have been in-studio guests and are in regular rotation on the Hairball John Radio Show.

Miles Beyond's music has also made it to the big screen as well landing 3 tracks from their debut CD in the feature film "Deadly Intuitions" released by Equinox Productions in 2004.

Freddy Metal: Give us the low-down such as when you guys formed the band & how long you all have now been together?

Tim - Paul and I started the band in early 2002 and we brought Larry in a few months later. The lineup was complete when Tod joined the band in October of 2002 and we settled on the name Miles Beyond.

Freddy Metal: Where & what studio did the production of your album take place?

Tim - We recorded in our own studio in Flint, Michigan. Our album was mixed by Andrew Malloy at Equinox Studios in Flushing.

Freddy Metal: Introduce the members & give us a brief background on each?

Tim My name is Tim Moody (Vocals and Guitar). I have been playing guitar since I was 13, playing all different styles of music. I have been singing for about 3 years now.

Paul - Paul Owsinski-Rhythm and lead guitars. I started taking guitar lessons when I was 10 years old. When I was in high school I heard someone play the guitar solo from "One" After that I bought "...And Justice for All" and was a Metallica freak for several years.

Larry - My name is Larry and I'm the bass player. I enjoy weightlifting and am very old school in music and in life.

Tod - My name is Tod (Drums) ... I spent quite a few years playing covers in club acts before Deciding to quit the music biz all together. I met Paul, then Larry, got back in the biz, and here I am.

Freddy Metal: What type of image would you say the band projects?

Tim - Our image is that we don't give a shit what's going on around us we play the kind of music we like.

Freddy Metal: What's Miles Beyond long & short term goals as far as touring, recording, ect?

Tim - We're playing as many big shows as we can and hope to be touring soon. Another album should be in the works some time next year.

Freddy Metal: Do all members contribute to the writing process?

Tim - As of now Paul, Larry and I do the writing in the band.

Freddy Metal: What do you feel sets Miles Beyond apart from other Metal Acts?

Tim - Melodies, good guitar playing and Songs!!! Most metal bands today sing with no melodies what so ever they just scream and whine.

Freddy Metal: So what do you guys do when you're not making music?

Tim - I work construction, watch movies and basketball.

Paul - Well, right now I am eating a sandwich.

Larry - I play video games and lift weights when I can.

Tod - Do I really have to divulge this? I am an accountant, A Father & a Husband.

Freddy Metal: As far as fans go, how would you describe them?

Tod - THE FEW WE HAVE HERE ARE GREAT ... DEDICATED ... THEY NEVER MISS A SHOW. MOST OF OUR FANS SEEM TO BE OVERSEAS AND WE HAVE NOT YET MET THEM, THOUGH SOME DO POST GREAT COMMENTS TO OUR WEBSITE.

Freddy Metal: What is the most outrageous thing that ever happened to you on stage during a performance or rehearsal?

Tim - While we were playing at a battle of the bands Tod's bass drum started to fall off the drum riser. I had to use my ass while I was playing to push it back on the riser before it fell off.

Freddy Metal: Who would you like to tour with and why?

Tod - Maby that one band you asked about earlier... Was it...Iron Maiden?

Freddy Metal :What would you say is your biggest gripe about the music industry?

Tim - Every new metal band sounds the same singers who just scream, guitar players who don't play solos because they can't even though they'll tell you it's because solos aren't cool. Also today's radio is more narrow-minded than ever, any band with real talent almost never gets heard.

Freddy Metal: What is your most memorable gig to date & why?

Tim - When we opened for Vince Neil because it was the first time we played to a sold out crowd.

Paul - The most memorable gig for me was the time I almost killed Larry by knocking him into equipment.

Larry - When we won the Battle of the Bands in summer 2004.

Tod - Opening for Iced Earth because the crowd in attendance truely appreciated our style of music.

Fredy Metal: Name some bands in which you've shared the stage & opened?

Tim - Iced Earth, Vince Neil, W.A.S.P., Danzig.

Freddy Metal: What is the current scene like in your local area & how does "Miles Beyond" fit in?

Tim - The current scene in our area is mostly nu metal crap. We don't fit in, we're miles beyond that..

Freddy Metal: Biggest Accomplishments?

Tim - Recording our cd, sharing the stage with Iced Earth and others, winning a battle of the bands. Gaining fans in Europe, especially Germany.

Freddy Metal: What does the future hold for MILES BEYOND? Where do you go from here?

Larry - The future holds great productivity and great success. From here we want go to the top of the metal scene and then to resurrect metal itself back to forefront.

Freddy Metal: Closing comments

Larry - Metal has been underground for too long. Miles beyond is the band to bring it back. Thank You.
