Falling Wisdom
Fallen Wisdom came together when I (JC) decided to break out of Puerto Rico's music scene by creating completely fresh and new music. I started looking for people with the same attitude and came across Gonzi, who had responded to an ad I had placed for bass players, and Radu, whom I auditioned for his band called Outlet. As soon as his band broke up (a week after forming) I invited him over and the rest was history, so to speak. We were originally called Antithesis (until we found out that there was a band that had recorded several albums under that name, we soon started looking for one and came across Fallen Wisdom, which is what we are and were), had 2 guitar players, and were going around in circles in Puerto Rico's 'underground music scene'. For our first show, one of our guitar players quit, so we moved ahead without him. Needless to say, although we played many shows, we were not accepted, AT ALL, by our own music scene. We were classified and labeled as 'weird loud music'. 5 out of the 30 plus that attended the shows actually liked us but, since we refused to play spanish speaking songs that everyone loved, and refused to play 'crap-metal' (rap metal and nu-metal), we were almost banned. Our set list included cover songs that noone played by bands like Misfits, Ramones and the likes. We broke all the rules and after a short year or so we decided to relocate and take it to the next level. We solidified our line up by welcoming our #1 fan, Lácrimas, to take on all guitar duties and re-named as Fallen Wisdom officially. The response here in the 'big island' has been phenomenal, to say the least, and has helped as motivation to us to strive and to soar higher. Fallen Wisdom has been together since early 2002. Tell us a bit about "Immortal" your current release? Immortal is a very special cd. It marks the culmination of what Fallen Wisdom stands for. It's a blend of genres: metal-punk-hardcore all in one. It's Fallen Wisdom at its best. It also marks the end of a chapter for each of us, as a band. We decided to take an indefinite vacation to try different things as individuals, so, Immortal is Fallen Wisdom's last musical effort. Where & what studio did the production of "Immortal" take place? -At Rex Trax studios in Suwanee, Georgia. What's the current scene like in your local area & how does Fallen Wisdom fit in? Although Georgia may be a great place to reside, it does not have a strong metal scene... It is almost non-existent. The 'scene' here is more directed towards Emo type music. What's the bands long & short term goals as far as touring, recording, writing etc? Unfortunately, Fallen Wisdom has disbanded indefinitely. My short term goals for Fallen Wisdom is to keep the cd's out there for everyone to purchase. My long term goal will be to try to put out a Fallen Wisdom b-side cd, some time next year and a live DVD as well. I still haven't worked out all the details, but they are in my goals. What would you say is your biggest gripe about the music industry? I guess the fact that everything's fabricated... Nothing's real anymore. And people just keep buying into it. Any label interest to date? It is hard to say... Right now, we've got CM Distro on Immortal, this is all I can say. Are you happy with where the band stands today in the Int'l underground Hard music scene? Yes. Most definitely. I think that, as an independent-do it yourself band, we've gone as far as we could... as far as our pockets let us go. What do you feel sets Fallen Wisdom apart from other Metal Acts? I think the rawness in our music and live performances, our 'weird' music; we bring lots of energy not only into our live shows but to our recordings; we don't take ourselves seriously but we do take our music and what we do seriously. I guess our fans would be the best ones to answer this question. What does each member bring into the band? Let's see... We all bring in our own ideas as to the music we make, we all bring lots of energy and charisma to our live shows, as well as bringing our own style. We love music and that's what Fallen Wisdom stands for. So what do you guy's do when you're not making music? When we are not making music? That's a hard one... I, usually, spend lots of time hiking, working out, reading, writing stories, producing other bands, etc. I know that Lácrimas studies languages, draws (she is the one that has done all the drawings for Fallen Wisdom and another band called Dead Rites) and is starting her own comic book series. Radu reads a lot, collects lots of toys and horror movies and also writes short stories. Describe a Fallen Wisdom fan? HA! Crazy motherf_ckers!! Anyone who thinks that their fans are not the greatest are just plain stupid. They are the reason when there may not seem like there is a reason... you know? Who would you like to tour with and why? Too many... let me name a few: Danzig, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Metallica, COC, Type O Negative, Moonspell, etc... Anyone who is willing to give us the chance. Why the bands that I mentioned? Well, they are the ones that we like the most. Do you have a special ritual that you guys do before you hit the stage? I stretch for like 15 minutes and then do some drum warm-up exercises and prepare the set list. Lácrimas does, more or less, the same. And, Radu warms up, but also likes to check out the crowd and scrutinize the set list that I just made. What is your fan base like? Small but, loud and loyal.
