VEIL OF MAYA

By Emanuele Gentile

Veil Of Maya was formed in 1996 by Fabio Nizza to compose his own original songs. They signed with Anubis Records and enterted the studio to record their first full length "Not Ordinary Dreams," a progressive, melodic, power metal album that is sure to give you infinite new emotions!

EMANUELE GENTILE: When was Veil Of Maya born?

FABIO NIZZA: The Veil Of Maya project was born in early 1996 from my idea and with clear ideas about playing. After a few concerts, we recorded our first demo (Winged Snake/1997). The year after, our second demo. This last one was only for labels. We have recieved various offers of a record deal. But, the only offer that was interesting was from Anubis Records. So, we signed with them. In 1999, we released our first CD, "Not Ordinary Dreams."

EMANUELE GENTILE: The band has a very interesting and personal sound. Who are the people who can understand it?

FABIO NIZZA: Thanks a lot. To understand our mood and feeling, it's a very personal way way to do music with a mix of melodies created with acoustic guitars, piano and orchestral parts. We think our sound can be understood by people who like to hear more and more from each song on the CD.

EMANUELE GENTILE: What are the most important features of your sound?

FABIO NIZZA: Our first and most important purpose was to create an original sound far away from trends. We think we have created a product that is very competitive and the reviews, at this time, are confirming it.

EMANUELE GENTILE: Is "Not Ordinary Dreams" a concept album?

FABIO NIZZA: No, it's not a concept album. The lyrics are more varied. For example, "It's Your Life" speaks about people without personality that are like puppets in the hands of the master. "Sensorial Perception" says to people, "think and be positive." "Silver Wings" is a hymn to freedom. Imagine riding a horse, like Pegasus, and going over the clouds. Now every problem is out.

EMANUELE GENTILE: What do you have to say about Anubis Records?

FABIO NIZZA: Okay, there's no problem with the boys of Anubis Records. They are doing everything they can do.

EMANUELE GENTILE: How is a Veil Of Maya song born?

FABIO NIZZA: Only in a natural way, first the music after the lyrics. If someone in the band has an idea, all he has to do is explain it to us and we will try to transform it into a V.O.M. song. If we think the results are good, we have a new song.

EMANUELE GENTILE: What does your album cover represent?

FABIO NIZZA: First, let me give thanks to Hit & Run of Alberto and Irene Penzin for the incredible graphics they created. The man with the bag on his head is the mental closer of the people, who doesn't view over their interesting. The bag is a "veil" that can't think for himself.

EMANUELE GENTILE: Where does your band name come from, the title of the Cynic song?

FABIO NIZZA: No, absolutely not. It comes from Schopenauer. He said that the Veil Of Maya, it's a deceiving veil. It can see to people only in existance. Now days, nothing's changed.

EMANUELE GENTILE: Your unusual dream?

FABIO NIZZA: To have another CD out next year and to play some live gigs.

EMANUELE GENTILE: From this answer, we think V.O.M. hasn't played live?

FABIO NIZZA: You know the Holy Bible? You know the Jewish Exodus from Egypt? To play in Sicily, it's more difficult to do than an Exodus.

EMANUELE GENTILE: What about future projects?

FABIO NIZZA: We're going to write some new songs with the hope of recording as soon as possible for a new CD.

EMANUELE GENTILE: Last words?

FABIO NIZZA: Thanks for the interview. E-mail Anubis Records at anubisrecs@libero.it.
