Introduce the
Conquest line-up to our readers?
Lead vocals and guitar - Derrick Brumley Drums and backing vocals
- Tim Fleetwood Guitars and backing vocals - Mike Crook Bass and backing
vocals - Rob LLloyd
How long has the group been in existence?
12 years give are take! Tim has been with me for the long haul. Mike
came along about 7 years ago. And Rob is the new guy!
In your own words describe your bands sound & Influence?
Our sound is the direct result of our history, as a song writer I
never learned cover tunes. This gives us a sound of our own. We are
a pure breed of heavy metal with influence's like Sabbath, metallica
priest , testament, maiden, pantera on the heavy side. On the lighter
side, kiss, Skid Row Motley, Disturbed, Godsmack !!
Name some bands in which you've shared the stage & opened?
Highlights for me would be; summer 2000 opening in St. Louis at Riverport
amphitheater for Iron Maiden Rob Halford and Queensryche, other cool
gigs where Savatage, Testament, W.A.S.P., Prong and many more! Check
out the web site for the rest.
Where & what studio did the production of "Damnation" take place?
Damnation was recorded in my basement! In summer of 2000 We have a
little adat studio set up. Damnation was an end of a chapter for conquest,
it was a compilation of songs written over the years with a few new
ones!
Does your band write as a group & what tracks off of Damnation do
you feel are the strongest & why?
I
write the songs and then I show them to the guys. then we work out
the arrangements together Tim (drums) knows me real well and most
of the time everything falls right in the pocket with some kind of
drum twist. Mike brings a bridge hear a solo idea there and strong
chops and blazing solo's to the table. Rob didn't play on Damnation
but in our new stuff he has brought a strong back bone and timing
influence into the group. As far as the strongest songs I don't really
know I like all of them. Like I said before most of those songs are
tunes from over our courier. But if I must choose one or two "annihilation"
and "feel my pain" would be two fav's
what is the current scene like in your local area & how does conquest
fit in?
Here in St. Louis the music world is soft a few rooms but not much.
No radio support for any pure metal, even bigger bands such as Judas
Priest came threw or the summer but no radio support, just for an
example. But the radio hear is always been bad. We go after gigs opening
for the nationals coming thru. We have had good result with this method.
We play to real metal fans and we sell lots of tee's and CDs this
way! Plus we give tons away as well. THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A PURE
HEAVY METAL CONCERT! It real cool that a metal concert is fresh again.
What's the bands long & short term goals as far as touring, recording,
writing etc.?
We have been playing some in Chicago and Denver, as well as every
where in between. But Conquest is ready and hungry for a opening slot
on a nationals tour. we are currently shopping for new management
and label support. As far as writing! Now that, I am very pumped about
the new tunes, these songs are strong. I cant wait for the world to
hear them.
What would you say is your biggest gripe about the music industry?
I
feel like the music has lost purity everything is trend based and
not about the music. I think the big guys mad a mistake by stopping
the evaluation of heavy metal as its own creator and not made by some
producer or management team! I don't know! Everything ,nothing, who's
to say!!!
Has there been any label interest?
We are starting over, we are shopping for management as well label
support. We have spoken with a few recently, two of the three we sent
check out the new tracks and got back to me so, so far so good!
Who came up with the killer "Damnation" cover art?
The concept I thought of, but a friend of mine did the artwork. Its
bad ass I think! It is almost like a prophesy thing! It's like a conceptual
disc with songs like "Doom Day after math", "Mankind", "Annihilation
Complete", "Something Evil" the world from my Pointe view.
Anything you wish to ad?
I think if you like Priest, Testament, Metallica I think you will
like "Damnation" its strong and aggressive its a complete heavy metal
CD.
